Dr. Joan Cook is a clinical psychologist and Professor at Yale University. She has nearly 100 research publications in the areas of traumatic stress, geriatric mental health and implementation science.
Over the past 20 years, she has worked clinically with a range of trauma survivors, including combat veterans and former prisoners of war, men and women who have been physically and sexually assaulted in childhood and adulthood, and survivors of the September 11th terrorist attack on the former World Trade Center.
Dr. Cook has taken her expertise to a wider audience, writing nearly 70 op-ed’s for media outlets such as Time, CNN, The Hill, and The Washington Post. These pieces range from why people react to news of terrorist attacks differently to sexual assault on college campuses.
